Group Questions:
- Location of Sonic Anemometers:
- One on Boom, one at current location, one RMYoung vain near windmast.
- We will use depth pingers to spit out depth of snow and height of center of anemometers above surface.
- Wind project, chair anemometers are oriented all wonky, we'll need to sync up and probably enter adjustments on input.
- Lidar: would like 10cm or better accuracy.
Misc Notes:
- Play w/ linksys network and see if it can easily get to the site computer.
- Field notes in Wiki... migrate appropriately from there:

- Questions on how we want sonic anemometer data collected (sample rate).
- 20100823: Kerry/Dozier working this out w/ Ed from NWAR(?).
Sept 2010 Trip:

- Need RJ45 connectors and crimper
Follow up stuff:
- Kerry to ship NIR domes/sensor.
Goals:
Fiber
- Cleaned up and looking into disposal options

$$Muxers: Kerry:
- Research and order 1/2 solid state muxers.
- Migrated stuff from MUX1 to logger instead.
Thermisters
- Calibrated CUES units:
- Immersed all 8 in a water bucket on 20100822-1337:
Thermister | deg C@20100822-1338 | deg C@20100822-1 |
---|---|---|
1 | 13.59 | 13.56 |
2 | 13.62 | 13.57 |
3 | 13.65 | 13.57 |
4 | 13.59 | 13.54 |
5 | 13.58 | 13.51 |
6 | 13.76 | 13.73 |
7 | 13.16 | 13.12 |
8 | 13.61 | 13.57 |
- Long term plans for Sesame units? Up to Ned.
Depth pingers: Kerry/Alex/MTC.
- Replace and test w/ newly calibrated pingers.
- Done. Mast pinger is now retired along w/ the mast.
- Installing Campbell (SR50) under non-heated sonic anemometer.
Lysimeters: MTC/Alex:
- Repair big one, 4 walls at 10"x78"x1/2"
- Repaired other one w/ clear materials from SNARL.
Chimney Drip: MTC/Alex:
- Installed gutter, need to fabricate/install drain.
- Chimney drain:
- 2" 8-10" long w/ 1/2" 5" deep slit to surround chimney wall.
- need 1 x 2" to 3/4" reducer.
- need 4 x 3/4" 45's
Tipping buckets: MTC:
- Test switches and scope drains and plan overhaul of tipping bucket mounts for 2011.
- Done, 9 (big one) appears to have switch issues.
Plumbing:
- Big Lysimeter drain plumbing:
- 1.5" tubing, have plenty of it at site.
- Hacksaw a groove in primary drain tube to accommodate heat tape.
- Need 1 @ 1.5" 90
- Need 1 @ 1.5" 45
- Have 1.5" to 1/2" reducer. ? Reduce to 3/4" instead?
- Inventory:
- Lots of 3/4" PVC
- Lots of 2" PVC
- Clear tubing is 3/4" id and 1" od, slightly more than 6'.
Anemometers: Kerry/Alex, w/ input from gang:
- Kerry is researching and will hopefully implement a heated sonic this fall/winter.
- Kerry has fixed the current unheated sonic (RM Young 3D 81000).
- Wind mast has been removed.
- One prop_vain anemometer from the mast has been installed near the former top mast anemometer.
- This will need a pin or something to keep it from spinning in its mounts.
Loggers
- UPload progams to wiki and backload as many as possible.
- Scope programming and clean it up.
- All the same, and all have 2GB.
- Calculate time till over-run.
- ?? days on CR3K#1
- ?? days on CR3K#2
- 188 days on CR3K#3
- Confirm overwrite is turned on.
- Calculate time till over-run.
Camera: MTC
- Wrote and implemented a SiteTour script, running hourly.
- Need to figure out zoom function from command line.
- 20100822: Wrote to Axis for support.
- 20100823: got references in response, looks like it's doable, research/implement.
- Bead of silicone on camera mount.
- Add closeup of BombBunker into SiteTour
- 20100823: Cleaned camera dome. Inside was clean, outside only in future.
Moisture Probes:
- Investigating repair of southern probe, northern probe appears fine.
Temperature Probe:
- Scope data and research TLC needs.
- 20100822: data appears good, values seem off (~200)
$$Power: Kerry/Alex/MTC
- Need new Marine Deep Cycle solution...
- or migrate to a 12-15v supply.
- Test UPS for computer.
- Tested and seems fine.
Radiometers: Kerry/Alex:
- Replace downlooking radiometers w/ calibrated units.
- Done.
- Longwave programming.
- Done.
- New shadow band appears to be performing well.
- Scope power alternatives for heater power supply.
- 12-15V power supply on line power?
- Continue to run manual till we iron out differences in readings.
- Calibration every 2 years, plan for 2011 session. Do we need a second for leapfrogging?
- Scope power alternatives for heater power supply.
- NIR radiometers: red domes are close to impossible to obtain, we'll probably squeak by another year or two on what we've got but we need to investigate long term solutions. Alex has done good ground work on this.
- Alex's notes on net radiometers:
It looks like the integrated net radiometers are starting to get popular. Campbell just announced the release of a new one which looks like a really slick design and has better specs than the other set we were looking at: http://www.campbellsci.com/cnr4 CNR4-L 26003- Kipp & Zonen 4-Component Net Radiation Sensor $6,400.00 26120 26120 Net Radiation Sensor Mounting Kit $145.00 CNF4-L 26008- Kipp & Zonen Ventilation Unit w/Heater $1,600.00 They've also got something for $4350 they're calling the NR01, manufactured by Hukseflux, which appears to be the same instrument as the Dynamax SN01: http://www.campbellsci.com/nr01
$$Perimeter Poles: Ned/Alex:
- Ned to investigate permit/pounder/materials to implement 4"OD, 6' long poles.
- Scoping plates w/ couplers/poles welded. 2' plate, 4-6' poles w/ 3-4" OD.
- 20100825: planning on galvanized pipe flange mounted to sheet metal or something w/ a 6-10" 2-3" galvanized nipple which we can drop PVC or galvanized pipe into to be removed when the snow is deep enuf to support bamboo.
$$Paint: MTC/Ned/Alex:
- Scraper
- Brush it on thick and simple.
$$Snow Pillow:
- nothing happening currently but still on the long-term wish-list. Previous notes reference a "DRUCK 5 PSI"???
- Relocate snow pillow from platform to side of big lysimeter on cinder blocks, the lysimeter is too fragile to mount the snow pillow on top of it... tho that would be a cool way to design a new snow pillow/ lysimeter combo device.
$$Precip Guage?
- Laser based unit?
- Bail, too tuff w/ blowing snow and LiDAR will take care of this to some degree.
$$MMSA chairlift wind integration:
- Chair1 working well, additional updates pending Dallas/Davis/Dozier meeting on Sept 19th.
- Meeting went well, MMSA moving ahead w/ updates.
Graphs: Alex/Ned/MTC:
- RTMC (comes w/ loggernet) implementation of graphs, similar to Patrol.
Misc
- Integrate data from old wiki into new.
- Polish up web presence.
- Design and schedule data Q/A procedure.
